FAQ

Q. why do you need a recruitment video?

A. An average four-year Canadian university or U.S. college education today can easily cost between $50,000 and $250,000 – far too much in our opinion. Our videos are here to help with this issue.

A beautiful athletic recruitment video can save a student-athlete tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars and/or help him or her get into the school of their choice. When sending a collegiate coach a video that really brings in their attention, they will remember you. The more videos you send them and the more you contact them, the more you will become a desired student athlete that they feel they need to have at their school.

In the U.S there are thousands of full and partial athletic and academic scholarships are available from large Division I, II and III schools. Additionally, if your grades are higher than average, the coaches will be able to push college admissions to offer you an academic scholarship and financial aid.

In Canada there are thousands of partial athletic and academic scholarships available from both college and universities across the country. Again, if your grades are higher than average, the coaches will be able to push college admissions to offer you an academic scholarship and financial aid. If you do both at a very high level they can be paired together creating almost a free education.

There are so many options and opportunities for you as a student athlete when you get on a collegiate coach’s radar and Maritime Athletic PROfiles Specialize in Getting You Noticed.

A. We are not a full recruitment agency. We do not reach out to coaches for you. We believe that process of recruiting should be done by the athletes since coaches hate being contacted by agency’s. We also believe that this is a growing aspect for our athletes since they will develop correct communication skills when reaching out and going back and forth with coaches. However, we give you the tools and advice to allow you to be successful in your recruitment process.

Q. whAT AGE SHOULD I START REACHING OUT TO COACHES WITH VIDEOS?

A. If you want to get ahead of the game, starting half way through your grade 8 year of school is great. Sending video to coaches this year shows coaches how eager you are to be at their program. For College and University, grade 10 is ideal, coaches will begin to take you more seriously since you’re growing as an athlete and as a person. If you’re waiting until your grade 11 year, you could be too late limiting your schools and making it a lot tougher. You NEED to get on a coaches radar as early as you can so they can track your progress and become invested in you.

Q. whAT SHOULD ATHLETES HIGHLIGHT ON FILM?

A. Skill sets vary from player to player and sport to sport, which makes each video unique. In order to get the most attention right away, you should fit your strength and highlight it at the beginning of the video, such as goal scoring/shooting or ball control etc. Then you should fill the rest of the video with other skill sets to show you’re a rounded player. It should be an authentic version of who you are as a player.

Q. whAT DOES THE RECRUITING PROCESS LOOK LIKE FOR UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE?

A. It all starts with identification. Coaches use a couple different approaches, starting with word of mouth. Coaching staffs have a network of people that are providing recommendations on players. That network can be vast, simply due to the amount of contact they have with staffs across a particular region. The other is identification via video, often received via email directly from a prospect.

The cold email is quite prevalent in the recruiting space across all sports. If you’re going to email a coach, send them a video, so at least they have some way to ground themselves with the level that you play at, who you are, etc.

You have to figure out a way to differentiate yourself, and video is a great way to do that.
